Lenovo’s sub-brand ZUK today unveiled the ZUK Z2, a smaller but equally powerful variant of the Z2 Pro that was launched earlier this month. While the Z2 does not feature 6GB of RAM, it still comes with a Snapdragon 820 chipset.
The handset also features a 5-inch Full HD display, which should allow it to perform better than the Galaxy S7 and HTC 10 in benchmarks because the GPU has to push fewer pixels. Other specs of the handset include 64GB of storage space, 4GB RAM, and a 3500mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0 support.
For the cameras, the 8MP shooter in the front features large 1.4um pixels, while the rear shooter is a 13MP ISOCELL sensor with PDAF. There is also a USB Type-C connector, LTE connectivity, Wi-Fi ac, Bluetooth 4.1, and a fingerprint scanner located into the home button of the handset.
Unlike the ZUK Z1, the ZUK Z2 does not run on CyanogenMod. Instead, the handset runs on ZUK’s own ZUI 2.0 that is based on Marshmallow. Outside of China, the handset will continue to run on Cyanogen OS. (https://www.almostthererescue.org/)
Lenovo’s sub-brand ZUK has almost no presence outside of China. The original ZUK Z1 was recently launched in India, where it has done surprisingly well. With the handset being priced competitively at RMB 1,799 ($275), Lenovo will eventually bring the handset to India where the 15k smartphone segment is growing at a tremendous rate.
