ZTE decided to do the right thing for potential customers, and announce its three brand new Nubia-branded devices at the same time. The Nubia Z7 is clearly the flagship of the trio, while the Z7 Max and Z7 Mini (albeit with some interesting naming schemes) offer some sacrifices when compared to the Nubia Z7.
On July 8, ZTE officially announced a trio of new Nubia devices to add to the lineup. At the top of the list is the flagship Nubia Z7, which packs plenty of power under the hood, along with a spec sheet worth staring at for anyone who loves their features. Along with the Nubia Z7, comes the Nubia Z7 Max and Nubia Z7 Mini, all with a few sacrifices here and there to that aforementioned spec sheet, but manage to still look tantalizing all on their own anyway.
Starting with the Nubia Z7, we’ve got a 5.5-inch QHD display, with a resolution of 2560×1440. If you are still worried about power drain on a display like that, ZTE has you covered with their Display RAM tech, which they say adjusts the backlight level better than other devices, while also using the technology to differentiate between static and moving images on the display. There’s a 13-megapixel camera on the back, which offers optical image stabilization for good measure, with a 5MP camera on the front. (Looks like Sony’s only in the selfie limelight for a short time.) Under the hood, there’s a 2.3GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 quad-core processor, with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of built-in storage. The battery is measured at 3000mAh, and the device will boast 4G LTE-connectivity. It’s also running Android 4.4 KitKat right out of the box, which you’ll find running under ZTE’s Nubia 2.0 proprietary software.
Next, the Nubia Z7 Max. While you might imagine this means it’s a bigger version of the Z7, that’s not actually the case. In an interesting twist of fate, the Z7 Max is a similar device to the Z7 in just about every way, except that it has a 1080p HD display, rather than the QHD panel. You’ll also find only 2GB of RAM under the hood. It still has a 13-megapixel camera, but you won’t find the OIS on the Z7 Max. Otherwise, the phone’s are identical.
The Z7 Mini, which again misses the point of the naming scheme, apparently. It’s actually taller than the Z7 and Z7 Max, but it does have a smaller, 5-inch 1080p HD display. It has 2GB of RAM, the 13MP camera without OIS, and 16GB of built-in storage. Otherwise, the other features are the same as the other handsets in the trio.
ZTE hasn’t said when these new devices will launch in other markets quite yet, as they’re strictly set in China for now. Prices are pretty straightforward: CNY 3,450 (about $556) for the Nubia Z7; CNY 2,000 (about $322) for the Z7 Max; and CNY 1,502 (about $242) for the Nubia Z7 Mini.
Do any of these devices strike your fancy?
