Asus ZenFone Max Pro M2

Asus recently launched the ZenFone Max Pro M2 in India. With a Snapdragon 660 chipset and a beefy 5,000mAh battery, the ZenFone Max Pro M2 is definitely an impressive device that ticks all boxes. But is that gigantic battery complemented by quick charging or any kind of fast charging support?

Sadly, the answer to that question is no. Despite coming with a massive 5,000mAh battery, Asus in all its wiseness decided not to include any kind of fast charging support on the ZenFone Max Pro M2. At the very maximum, the phone can accept 10W of power which is slightly slower than Quick Charge 2.0 speeds. Asus also bundles a 10W charger with the phone.

The slower charging speeds mean the ZenFone Max Pro M2 takes upwards of 3 hours to charge from 0-100 percent. That’s definitely on the longer side as most devices charge to from 0-100 percent in about 2 hours. The closest competitor to the Asus ZenFone Max Pro M2, the Redmi Note 6 Pro comes with Quick Charge 3.0 support. Xiaomi does not bundle a compatible Quick Charge 3.0 charger which is something owners of the phone will have to buy separately.

Nonetheless, thanks to Quick Charge 3.0 support, the Redmi Note 6 Pro charges to 50 percent in just 45 minutes. (bobbergdesigns.com) Considering the phone comes with a 4,000mAh battery, 50 percent juice is enough to last through a day. For comparison, the ZenFone Max Pro M2 only charges to about 30 percent in one hour and around 60 percent after two hours on the charger.

Asus has clearly cut corners by not adding Quick Charge/fast charging support on the ZenFone Max Pro M2. It likely did this keeping in mind the device comes with a beefy 5,000mAh battery. Do you find the lack of fast charging on the ZenFone Max Pro M2 a deal breaker?
