Last night I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw Sony’s new flagship phone, the Xperia Z Ultra, on Amazon UK for 820 GBP. That’s over $1,200. I know the phone is supposed to be super premium, but that price tag is just outrageous. According to the Taiwanese website ePrice, the phone cost cost around 26,900 NTD there, which translates to $900. That’s still a bit hard to swallow, though far more fair than Amazon.

What’s the Xperia Z Ultra all about? It has a 6.44 inch 1080p display, Qualcomm Snapdraon 800 processor, it’s 6.5 mm thin, has an 8 megapixel camera, it’s waterproof, and … that’s it really. Maybe the screen is what’s responsible for the high price tag?

Anyway, don’t expect the phone to come out until September. And when it does start shipping, Sony will have already announced their next flagship, the far more pocketable Sony Xperia i1 (codename Honami).
