According to the Xperia Blog, which isn’t an official Sony website, they’re a fan site, numerous people have been reporting that their Xperia Z just stops working suddenly. And I’m not talking random shutdowns or reboots, I’m talking full blown paperweight. Some people have reported that pressing the power button and volume up key simultaneously can bring the phone back to life, but it doesn’t work for everyone.

And what’s Sony’s response? They say the problem has been identified and that it’s going to be fixed via a software update, but said software update doesn’t have an estimated arrival date.

Wonderful.

In semi-related news, I follow someone on Twitter who is really smart called Dean Bubley. He recently got himself Sony’s new VAIO Duo 11 to see what Windows 8 was all about. He’s had nothing but problems, including a keyboard that failed. What’s worse is that he sent the computer in for repair, but he hasn’t seen his machine for over a month.

Let this serve as a warning to anyone considering buying Sony hardware.
