When Sony launched the Xperia Z, it promised that the Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean update for the device will be available soon after. Well, more than 3 months have passed since the Xperia Z was made available in every major market, and Sony is yet to roll out the Android 4.2.2 update for the handset.
Today, DooMLoRD – a popular developer over at the XDA forums for Sony devices – has leaked an Android 4.2.2 based firmware for the Xperia Z. If you don’t want to flash CyanogenMod 10.1 on your Z, but want Android 4.2.2, this leaked firmware is going to be your best bet. Keep in mind that to install this leaked firmware, you will need to unlock the bootloader of your device. You will also need some knowledge of Flashtool before you can install the firmware on your Z.
At the moment, not much information is available as to what new features the leaked firmware brings, except for a slightly re-designed launcher, Daydream, Quick settings with the ability to chose the toggles, Dual shock PS3 controller support and screen mirroring. DooMLoRD says that the leaked firmware is super smooth, and is relatively bug-free. This should, hopefully, indicate that Sony is in the final stages of testing the firmware before it officially begins rolling out the update.
P.S. – I will update this post if I come across some new features in the leaked firmware.
