Sony is a brand that used to be well respected. When I was a kid, my dad was crazy about Sony, and we owned practically every bit of audio and video equipment they made. The Japanese company wants that image to come back, and supposedly they’re going to make that happen later this year by rebooting their smartphone portfolio.
The first phone to help Sony earn some attention again will apparently be called the Xperia i1 according to the Brazilian website TechTudo. They’ve somehow managed to acquire an image of the device, previously known as codename Honami, and it looks to be a continuation of the design language that Sony introduced with the Xperia Z and then further refined with the Z Ultra.
In terms of size, the i1 fits right in between the 6.4 inch Z Ultra and the 5 inch Z. If I had to make a guess, I’d say it’ll have at least a 5.3 inch screen, though that’s purely speculation on my part. What’s not speculation however is the i1’s camera. Rumors have been floating around the internets for months about a 20 megapixel sensor, and TechTudo confirms this is indeed the case.
When will we know more? Your guess is as good as mine, but like I said earlier, I expect this thing to be on store shelves by the end of the year.
