Xiaomi announced the Redmi Note yesterday, making it one of the cheapest phablets we’ve come across so far. The manufacturer has now announced that this budget phablet could soon venture its way out of China to neighboring markets such as Hong Kong, Singapore and Taiwan in May. The company gave out this information through its official Weibo page.
Starting at just $130, the Redmi Note is certainly a great bargain featuring a 1.4 GHz octa-core processor, a 5.5 inch 720p display, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of storage, a 13 megapixel camera as well as a 3,200 mAh battery.
The manufacturer is also launching a ‘Plus’ variant which features the same chipset but with a clock speed of 1.7 GHz and 2GB of RAM. This variant costs slightly more at $160, which is still not what we would consider expensive for a phablet.
Xiaomi had previously hinted that its smartphones could break cover in Latin American countries in the future, with plans to launch them in India and Indonesia as well. With products as competitively priced as the Redmi Note, the company could certainly do wonders if the device ever makes its way out of Asia and expands into Europe and even North America.
