Xiaomi has introduced an updated and “enhanced” version of its Redmi 2A, which boasts twice as much RAM and storage as the original model. The best thing about the new device is that it doesn’t cost a penny more than its predecessor.
The new Redmi 2A comes with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage, up from 1GB of RAM and 8GB of storage buyers got with the original. Despite those enhancements — which should improve the user experience significantly — the Redmi 2A still costs just $78.
The updated Redmi 2A comes after Xiaomi co-founder Lei Jun recently remarked that smartphones with less than 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage do not provide an optimal experience.
Aside from the RAM and storage improvements, the new Redmi 2A is identical to the original, with a 4.7-inch 720p display, a Leadcore LC1860 processor clocked at 1.5GHz, an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera, and a 2,200mah battery packed into a colorful plastic form factor.
With more than 10 million units sold so far, the Redmi 2A has been hugely successful for Xiaomi, so it’s no surprise the Chinese startup wants to make it even more appealing to budget smartphone buyers.
