If the latest data from IDC is anything to by, Xiaomi has managed to dethrone Samsung as the largest smartphone vendor in India. The data from IDC shows that Samsung and Xiaomi both captured 23.5 percent of the Indian smartphone market in Q3 2017.
Xiaomi shipped a record 9.2 million smartphones in Q3 in India, with its supremely popular Redmi Note 4 comprising of 4 million units alone. Its other handsets, the Redmi 4 and Redmi 4A, were also among the top 5 popular smartphones in the country in Q3 2017.
Happy to share that @XiaomiIndia shipped 9.2 Mn smartphones in Q3 2017.
We started with a humble beginning of selling 100K/quarter in 2014, crossed the 1M mark in Q3 '15, 3M in Q3 '16 and now for the 1st time – 9M in Q3 '17.

After Samsung and Xiaomi, Lenovo-Motorola managed to take the third place in the Indian smartphone market with a market share of 9 percent. This was followed by Vivo and Oppo with a market share of 8.5 percent and 7.9 percent, respectively.
Xiaomi’s recent success in India can be attributed to its aggressive offline expansion. While the company has been selling some amazing handsets in the budget segment in India for the last two years, it saw limited success in the country due to its online-only approach.
Over the last few months, however, Xiaomi has aggressively expanded its offline presence in India which has rocketed it to the top of the Indian smartphone market. The company has even started advertising its smartphones heavily in a bid to create consumer awareness. It recently launched the Redmi Y1 and Y1 Lite in the country with Bollywood actress Katrina Kaif as the brand ambassador for marketing purposes.
