The Mi 5 is not going to be the first phone that Xiaomi will launch this year. The company today teased on Weibo (China’s Twitter) the launch of a new smartphone on January 12. If previous leaks are anything to go by, this new handset is the Redmi 3.
The Redmi 3 has already made its way through TENAA in China, which revealed a majority of its specs. This budget handset from Xiaomi will feature a 5-inch 720p display, a 1.5GHz octa-core processor, 2GB RAM, 16GB internal storage, and 13/5MP shooters.
This is an out-and-out budget handset from Xiaomi, and if the leaked pictures are anything to go by, the handset will feature a unique design with a textured back.
The teaser image from Xiaomi indicates that the Redmi 3 will be unveiled on January 12, which is next week, so you don’t really have to wait for long to get to know the full specs and price of the handset.
Xiaomi is also scheduled to release the Mi 5, its flagship smartphone, that will be powered by a Snapdragon 820 chipset in February in China just after the Chinese New Year.
