Xiaomi teams up with Uber

Xiaomi has announced a unique partnership with Uber to offer customers “on-demand” delivery of its new Mi Note smartphone in Singapore and Malaysia. The company calls this a “first-of-its-kind collaboration between two of the most innovative tech startups in the world.”

Xiaomi vice president Hugo Barra explained in a Facebook post that ordering the new Mi Note uses exactly the same process as calling for an Uber car; customers simply open the Uber app on their smartphone, then use the slider at the bottom to select the Xiaomi option.

The app will then display cars that are equipped to deliver the Mi Note in orange, and you can tap one and select “Order Mi Note now” to buy the device. Payment will be taken from the credit card tied to your Uber account, and your new smartphone will be delivered to you “within a few minutes.”

“Pretty cool, right?” says Barra. We definitely agree. Who wouldn’t want their brand new smartphone delivered to them within minutes of ordering it? Now I’m even more desperate for Xiaomi to bring its smartphones to Europe!
