Xiaomi has quickly become a large name in the Android world, especially as the third-largest manufacturer in the world, but the name isn’t quite a household one in the United States.
In China, Xiaomi is a huge force to be reckoned with, and while that’s probably good enough for now for the company, setting sights on foreign shores is inevitable. When that time will actually come, though, is still up in the air. It’s not going to happen in February, despite the fact that the company has scheduled a press conference for February 12 in San Francisco. The company has already confirmed that a U.S.-based smartphone launch is not going to be on the docket.
The reason for the press conference? To get to know the company, and the leadership tied to the top of its ranks:
“We can also confirm that Xiaomi will not be launching in the U.S. or entering the U.S. market this time, but this is an opportunity to get to know the company and leadership a bit more.“
It’s certainly one strategy to take, as Xiaomi does what it can to get its name bigger in the United States (and the rest of the world). Holding a press conference that’s sure to gather plenty of attention, even without actually launching a device. Getting to know the company ahead of any kind of product launch, even months or years in advance, is certainly unorthodox. It could work, right?
