Xiaomi might be struggling in China, but in India, the company has been absolutely dominating the mid-range smartphone market. Its mid-range offering, the Redmi Note 3, has been selling like hot cakes even 5 months after its launch. No wonder, as per the latest data from IDC, the Redmi Note 3 became the most shipped smartphone sold only through online channels in India.
The handset sold 2x the units of the second highest shipped smartphone in India during the Q2 of 2016. Overall, in just 5 months of its launch, Xiaomi has sold a staggering 1.75 million units of the Redmi Note 3 in India. This has helped the company to post a tremendous 72% increase in its sales on a year-on-year basis for the period July 2014-16.
Putting the Redmi Note 3’s popularity in numbers, 1 out of the 9 smartphones shipped in India in Q2, 2016 was a Redmi Note 3.
The handset is 5 months old, but Xiaomi still has not been able to catch up with its demand in the Indian smartphone market. Xiaomi recently started selling its smartphones through offline channels in India, but the Redmi Note 3 remains hard to find in retail stores as well.
Xiaomi sells the Redmi Note 3 for Rs 10/12,000 in India. This category is filled with other popular smartphones like the Moto G4, Lenovo’s Vibe K5 Note, Honor 5x, LeEco Le 2, and more. However, despite such stiff competition, sales of Redmi Note 3 show no sign of stopping, which is a testament to just how incredibly good the smartphone is.
