Xiaomi today launched the Redmi 4A in India, its cheapest handset till date in the country. The budget handset sits below the Redmi 3S in terms of specs,  features and price point.

The design of the handset is similar to the Redmi 3S, but it features a polycarbonate body instead of metal. The 8.5mm thick handset will be available in Dark Grey, Gold, and Rose Gold colors.

On the front, the Redmi 4A comes with a 5-inch 720p display. The handset is powered by a quad-core Snapdragon 425 chipset clocked at 1.4GHz and an Adreno 308 GPU. It also comes with 16/32GB of storage and 2GB RAM. Other specs of the handset include WiFi, Bluetooth 4.1, dual-SIM connectivity/hybrid microSD card slot, an IR blaster, and a microUSB port.

There is a 13MP shooter with f/2.2 aperture and a LED flash at the rear of the device, while the front of the phone houses a 5MP shooter. All this is powered by a beefy 3120mAh battery that offers up to 7 days of standby battery life.

Like with other Xiaomi devices launched in India, The Redmi 4A supports 4G and VoLTE out of the box. This makes the Redmi 4A among the cheapest 4G VoLTE supporting phone in the  country.

On the software front, the Redmi 4A runs on MIUI 8 that is based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow. It comes with features like Dual Apps, Indic support for 13 local languages, a customised SMS app that displays actionable buttons based on the content of the SMS. The SMS app on Redmi 4A will also automatically parse information from IRCTC messages to show relevant information in a beautiful card-like design.

The Redmi 4A will be available for Rs 5999 in India exclusively on Amazon India from March 23. The Rose Gold color will go on sale from April 6.
