Building on the success of the Redmi 4A and the Redmi Note 4, Xiaomi today launched the Redmi 4 in India. Successor to the Redmi 3s from last year, all variants of the Redmi 4 now feature a fingerprint scanner. 

Featuring a aluminium body and a sleek design that is similar to that of the Redmi Note 4, the Redmi 4 feature a 5-inch 720p display that is protected by a 2.5D curved glass. The speaker has been moved to the bottom and similar to the Redmi Note 4, it features two speaker grilles at the bottom, though only one of them houses that actual speaker.

The Redmi 4 is powered by Qualcomm’s octa-core Snapdragon 435 chipset clocked at 1.4GHz. The Redmi 4 will be available in three variants with varying amount of storage and RAM. Other specs of the​ handset include Wi-Fi b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.1, hybrid dual-SIM/microSD card slot, and a 4100mAh battery.

The handset feature a 13MP shooter at the rear with PDAF and f2.0 aperture and a 5MP selfie shooter at the front.

Like with any other Xiaomi device, the Redmi 4 runs on MIUI 8 based on Marshmallow.

The cheapest variant of the Redmi 4 features 2GB RAM and 16GB storage is priced at Rs 6,999. There are also 3GB RAM + 32GB and 4GB RAM + 64GB storage variants of the Redmi 4 priced at Rs 8,999 and Rs 10,999. The handset will be available exclusively online on Amazon starting from May 23rd. At Xiaomi’s first Mi Home in Bangalore, the Redmi 4 will be available for purchase starting May 20th.
