Xiaomi today unveiled MIUI 9, the latest version of its ROM meant for its devices. Used by over 200 million users across the world, MIUI is among the most popular ROMs in the market. With MIUI 9, Xiaomi is refining the user experience and making the ROM leaner and smoother to use.
Thanks to under the hood optimisations, MIUI 9 comes with “explosive fast app launch-times” and accelerated app loading times. There is also dynamic resource allocation that automatically prioritises and allocates resources to apps which are being used.
MIUI 9 primarily consists of three new features: Smart Assistant, Smart App Launcher, and Image Search.
The new Image Search feature lets one search for people, location, expression, events, documents, and screenshots through the phone’s inbuilt search engine. There’s also a Smart assistant which works much like Google Now/Assistant and helps one find and show their relevant notes, schedules, files, and more.

MIUI 9 also comes with Smart app launcher that automatically suggests you apps to launch depending on the content being displayed on the screen.
As Xiaomi had teased earlier, MIUI 9 also comes with split-screen functionality and new system themes. Certain aspects of MIUI have also been revamped, with new system icons and visual redesign.
Xiaomi says that certain features of MIUI 9 like Smart Assistant and Smart app launcher are only available for the China ROM. The company will provide more details about the features in the global version of MIUI 9 in the next few weeks.
