Earlier this week, Xiaomi unveiled the Mi Max — a phablet with a gigantic 6.44-inch screen and a mammoth 4850mAh battery. The device is all set to go on sale in China on May 17th at very attractive price points.

Xiaomi products have traditionally done well in China, with the company’s much anticipated flagship, the Mi 5, receiving over 16 million registrations for the first sale. Now, the Mi Max — despite its gargantuan size — seems to be following the same footsteps as Xiaomi’s flagship handset, as it has received over 8 million registrations for its first flash sale in China that will be held on May 17.

Xiaomi had a lot of trouble meeting the demand of the Mi 5 when it first launched it in China due to its high demand. Looking at the sheer registrations for the Mi Max, it is all but given that the company is going to struggle in meeting the initial demand for the phablet as well.

The Mi Max is Xiaomi’s largest smartphone till date. It features a 6.44-inch Full HD display and is powered by a Snapdragon 650/652 processor. The handset also features 3/4GB RAM, up to 64GB of storage space, a 7.5mm slim metal body, fingerprint scanner, 16MP rear shooter with PDAF, and a 4850mAh battery.
