Xiaomi today unveiled the successor to the Mi Max in China: the Mi Max 2. Like its predecessor, the Mi Max 2 combines a gigantic display with mid-range specs and a gigantic battery.
Featuring a metal unibody design, the Mi Max 2 continues to come with a 6.44-inch 1080p display. The bezels surrounding the handset have been reduced by a fair margin which should make it more manageable. Inside the Mi Max 2 is Qualcomm’s excellent mid-range Snapdragon 625 chipset clocked at 2GHz. This efficient process is paired with a beefy 5300mAh battery which should ensure that the Mi Max 2 easily provides two-day battery life. There is also Quick Charge 3.0 support which Xiaomi says will charge the handset to up to 68 percent in just an hour.

Taking advantage of the bigger screen of the handset, Xiaomi has included stereo speakers on the handset which automatically switch to stereo mode when the phone is turned to landscape mode. On the camera side, the Mi Max 2 comes with a 12MP Sony IMX386 shooter with 1.25um micro pixel. This is the same sensor that Xiaomi has used on the Mi 6 as well.
Other specs of the handset include 4GB RAM, up to 128GB storage, microSD card slot, fingerprint sensor, IR blaster, hybrid SIM slot, 5MP wide-angle selfie shooter, LTE, GPS, and other usual connectivity options.
Prices for the Mi Max 2 starts from RMB1699 for the 4GB + 64GB variant, with the 4GB + 128GB variant coming in at RMB1999. For now, the Mi Max 2 will only go on sale in China, though the company is expected to bring the device to India in July.
