Xiaomi was rumored to be launching the Android TV 6.0-based Mi Box sometime in October, and it turns out that is indeed the case.
The company has officially announced that the Mi Box will launch later today, priced at $69. The set-top box will run Android TV 6.0 right out of the gate, and the company has outlined plenty of the high-profile features the new Android TV device will boast. That includes support for 4K streaming.
4K streaming supports 60 frames per second, which Xiaomi notes is two-times faster than other set-top boxes. The Mi Box also supports High Dynamic Range (HDR) content, presumably by supporting HDR10. The Mi Box also ships with a Bluetooth remote control, which supports voice queries. You can say things like, “The latest action movies,” and the search will populate genre-specific titles.
The Mi Box also supports wireless game controllers, Google Cast for streaming content from iOS- or Android-based devices, and a plethora of apps like MLB.tv, Netflix, PLEX, and games as well.
The Mi Box features a quad-core processor under the hood, along with 3+2-core GPU, 2GB of RAM, 8GB of built-in storage, and support for external storage by way of USB. The set-top box also supports DTS multichannel HD audio encoding, as well as Dolby Digital Plus surround sound.
