Xiaomi Mi Band 2

Xiaomi is all set to unveil the Mi Band 2 on May 10th, but it looks like the availability of the wearable is going to be plagued by some production issues. The CEO of Huami, the company that manufactures some of Xiaomi’s devices, revealed through a posting on Weibo that the company is running into some production issues with the Mi Band 2, which are preventing it from meeting its expected demand.

The delay was also confirmed by Xiaomi’s CEO, who now says that the Mi Band 2 will be available a month after its official unveiling.

The original Mi Band and the Mi Band 1S were hugely successful in China and neighbouring countries despite their limited availability. So, Xiaomi needs to ensure it has more than ample stock of the Mi Band 2 before it puts the device up on sale after its official unveiling. While a month long wait to order the wearable is likely not going to go well with Chinese consumers, it should ensure that Xiaomi and its partners have enough stock when the wearable does go on sale the first time around.

Unlike the Mi Band and Mi Band 1S, the Mi Band 2 will feature an LED screen that will display the time, steps taken, calories burnt, and more. It is also expected to come with a heart rate scanner, like the Mi Band 1S. The above image also confirms that the wrist band on the Mi Band 2 can be easily replaced, since the core module itself is removable.
