Xiaomi Mi A2

Earlier this week, Xiaomi launched the Mi A2 in Spain. The mid-range Android One handset sports a Snapdragon 660 chipset and an impressive dual-camera setup at the rear. Xiaomi has already confirmed that the Mi A2 will launch in over 40 countries worldwide, with the Indian launch of the handset happening on August 8.

The Indian smartphone market is a particularly important one for Xiaomi which is perhaps why it has showered some extra love for the Mi A2 that it will launch in the region. The company has confirmed that while the Mi A2 launched in other parts of the world will feature Quick Charge 3.0, the Indian unit of the handset will feature Quick Charge 4.0 support.

Once launched, this will make the Mi A2 among the very few handsets to feature Quick Charge 4.0 support. Other handsets that have launched in the country, including the flagship ones from LG and Samsung, have at best featured Quick Charge 3.0 support. It is definitely impressive to see Xiaomi include Quick Charge 4.0 support on a mid-range smartphone especially when the feature is not even present on flagship Android devices.

There’s a slight catch here though. While the Mi A2 itself will come with Quick Charge 4.0 support, Xiaomi will not be bundling a compatible quick charger with the device. Instead, it will bundle a regular 5V/2A charger with the device. This means that to enjoy faster charging speeds on your Mi A2, you will have to invest in a Quick Charge 4.0 charger. This poses another problem as no QC 4.0 compatible chargers are sold in India officially.

Hopefully, Xiaomi itself will launch a Quick Charge 4.0 compatible charger alongside the Mi A2 for interested customers.
