Xiaomi today unveiled its latest smartphone in China: the Mi 6X. This is Xiaomi’s first mid-range smartphone to launch with a USB-C port and without a headphone jack.

The Mi 6X sports the same design as the Redmi Note 5 Pro launched earlier this year. Internally though, the handset features slightly upgraded specs. It comes with a Snapdragon 660 chipset, up to 6GB of RAM, 128GB of storage along with a microSD card slot, Wi-Fi ac, Bluetooth 5.0, USB-C, and a 3010mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0 support.

The Mi 6X comes with a dual-camera setup at the rear which might look identical to the Note 5 Pro from outside but its very different. The primary 12MP shooter makes use of Sony’s IMX486 sensor, while the secondary sensor is a 20MP IMX376 shooter. This allows the handset to not only capture Portrait photos but also offer 2x zoom. There’s is a 20MP selfie shooter at the front also paired with an LED flash. The camera app is powered by AI to help improve its performance. As seen on the Mix 2S, the Mi 6X will automatically switch to the appropriate shooting mode depending on the scene.

Like other Xiaomi devices, the Mi 6X runs on MIUI 9 based on Android 8.1 Oreo.

The Mi 6X goes on sale in China from April 27. It will be available in red, blue, black, gold, and rose gold colors. Xiaomi will be offering the handset in three different configurations: 4GB RAM/64GB storage, 6GB RAM/64GB storage, and 6GB RAM/128GB storage. The base variant is priced at RMB 1,599, with the other two variants coming in at RMB 1,799 and RMB 1,999.

There was no word from Xiaomi about the international availability of the Mi 6X at today’s launch event. However, the Mi 5X from last year was rebranded as the Mi A1, an Android One handset, and sold in international markets. Thus, the Mi 6X will likely meet the same fate and be sold as the Mi A2 internationally running stock Android. I’d expect Xiaomi to announce the Mi A2 in about a month from now for the international markets.
