Xiaomi Mi 6

Xiaomi today teased the launch of its next flagship, the Mi 6, on April 19. The company will be hosting the launch event of the device in Beijing, China.

It was earlier rumored that the Mi 6 would be released with a Snapdragon 821 chipset due to the lack of Snapdragon 835 chipsets in the market. However, recent rumors surrounding the device point to Xiaomi launching the handset in two variants: Mi 6 and Mi 6 Plus. Both handsets will feature Full HD displays, 12MP rear shooter, and come with up to 6GB RAM and 256GB of storage. They will also be powered by Qualcomm’s latest and greatest Snapdragon 835 chipset.

Unless any other company manages to host an event before April 10, Xiaomi will only be the third OEM after Sony and Samsung to announce a handset with Snapdragon 835 chipset. Looking at the shortage of Snapdragon 835 chips in the market though, it is unlikely that the Mi 6 will go on sale before the first or second of May in China.

It remains to be seen if Xiaomi will unveil MIUI 9, the latest version of its skin, alongside the Mi 6 or not at the event.

Like other Xiaomi devices, the Mi 6 will likely only be available in China, India, and in other neighbouring Asian markets eventually.
