Alongside MIUI 9, Xiaomi also unveiled Mi 5x, its budget Mi handset featuring a dual-camera setup at the rear.

The handset features a 5.5-inch full metal unibody design with rounded edges and a fingerprint scanner located at its rear. The 165g handset has a discreet antenna design with an anti-fingerprint coating to repel fingerprints.

Inside, the Mi 5X features an octa-core Snapdragon 625 chipset running at 2GHz, 4GB RAM, and 64GB of storage space. As for the dual-camera setup, the primary 12MP sensor features a wide angle lens, while the secondary shooter has a telephoto lens. This is the same camera setup that Xiaomi has used on its flagship handset, the Mi 6. The dual-camera setup allows the Mi 5X to offer a Portrait mode where it blurs the background for a DSLR-like bokeh effect. All this is powered by a 3080mAh battery, with other connectivity options like Bluetooth, NFC, Wi-Fi ac, and USB-C port also being available.

Xiaomi has also included a stand-alone audio amplifier on the Mi 5x along with a DHS Audio calibration algorithm which helps improve audio output from the device.
