Xiaomi today announced a price cut for its flagship smartphone, the Mi 5, in India. The handset will now be available in the country for Rs 22,999, down from its original price of Rs 24,99.
The price cut comes just a week after Xiaomi dropped the prices of the Mi 5 in China. Xiaomi has previously sold the Mi 5 at the same discounted pricing albeit only for a couple of days.
Xiaomi only sells the base variant of the Mi 5 in India, unlike China where it offers the handset in three different configurations and price bands. In India, the handset is only available in three different colors: gold, white, and black.
Nonetheless, at the price of Rs 22,999, the Mi 5 offers top-notch specifications that no other phone in the same price band offers. This includes a beautiful 5.15-inch Full HD display, a Snapdragon 820 chipset clocked at 1.8GHz, 3GB RAM, 32GB of UFS 2.0 based storage, and a 16MP shooter with 4-axis OIS. The Mi 5 also features a fingerprint scanner at its front, a USB Type-C port, and a 3000mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0 support.
Out of the box, the Mi 5 runs on MIUI 7 that is based on Android 5.1 Lollipop. The handset is scheduled to receive the update to MIUI 8 from later this week.
