Xiaomi has been launching new smartphones after almost every few weeks and the company is continuing this trend with the unveiling of the Redmi 6 Pro and the Mi Pad 4. The former is the company’s new mid-range handset in the Redmi series, while the latter is an 8-inch tablet.
Redmi 6 Pro
The latest addition to Xiaomi’s popular Redmi lineup, the Redmi 6 Pro features a 5.84-inch 19:9 notched display. This is Xiaomi’s first phone in the budget segment to include a notch display. Other specs of the handset are relatively unimpressive. It is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 625 chipset, features up to 4GB RAM/64GB storage, a 12MP/5MP dual-camera set up at the rear, and a 5MP front camera.
The handset houses a dedicated fingerprint scanner along with AI face unlock. Other notable specs include a dedicated microSD card slot, dual-SIM connectivity, 4,000mAh battery, and IR blaster.
It runs on MIUI 10 based on Android 8.1 Oreo which comes with performance improvements, AI portrait mode, new system sounds, and more. The handset goes on sale in China from June 26th, with the base variant priced at 999 yuan and the 4GB RAM/64GB variant priced at 1199 yuan. It will be available in red, gold, blue, pink, and black colors.
Mi Pad 4
Android tablets might be dead, but Xiaomi still has not given up on them. The company today unveiled the Mi Pad 4 in China as the successor to its massively popular budget tablet, the Mi Pad 3. The Mi Pad 4 features an 8-inch FHD (1920×1080) screen with a 16:10 aspect ratio display.
The change in aspect ratio makes the tablet 9.4 percent smaller than the outgoing model thereby making it more comfortable for one-hand use. The unibody aluminum tablet weighs in at 242.5gms and lacks a fingerprint scanner. Instead, it relies solely on AI face unlock using the 5MP camera at the front.
Other specs of the Mi Pad 4 includes a Snapdragon 660 chipset, 4GB RAM, 13/5MP cameras, and a 6,000mAh battery. The 7.9mm thick tablet features a USB-C port, Bluetooth 5, Wi-Fi ac, optional LTE connectivity, and runs on Android 8.1 Oreo with MIUI 9.5 on top of it.
The tablet will come in Black and Gold colors. The base 3GB RAM/32GB variant is priced at 1099 yuan, while the 4GB RAM/64GB variant is priced at 1399 yuan. The tablet goes on sale from June 27th in China, with no word from Xiaomi on its international availability.
