Mi Pad 3

Xiaomi today quietly launched its latest Android tablet in China: the Mi Pad 3. The tablet comes more than a couple of years after the Mi Pad 2.

Like its predecessor, the Mi Pad 2 sports a 7.9-inch screen with a 4:3 aspect ratio and a resolution of 2048 x 1536. Brighter and less reflective than before, the display now also comes with a black and white mode and an ‘eye protection’ reading mode that essentially filters out the blue light emitting from the display.

The tablet sports an all-metal design with sandblasting process that makes it durable while still retaining its premium look and feel.

Inside the Mi Pad 3 is a MediaTek MT8176 chipset, 4GB RAM, and 64GB storage. There is no microSD card slot here so you are limited to the amount of available onboard space for all your storage needs. There is also a 6600mAh battery to power the device for up to 12 hours of video playback or up to 867 hours of standby time. At the rear, you will find a 13MP f/2.2 camera with 1080p video recording.

On the software front, the Mi Pad 3 runs on MIUI 8 based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow. While Xiaomi’s own MIUI apps take advantage of the bigger screen, the lack of Android Nougat means that there is no split view multitasking or other goodies.

Xiaomi will start selling the Mi Pad 3 in China from April 6 for CNY 1499 ($220). As with other products from the company, the Mi Pad 3 will only be available in China.
