Xiaomi Mi 3

Xiaomi today announced that it will stop selling its last year flagship — the Mi 3 — in India to focus on the launch of the RedMi 1S — which is scheduled to go on sale from September 2 next month.

The Xiaomi Mi 3 was available exclusively on Flipkart and has sold like hot cakes since its initial launch. Every week, around 15,000 units of the handset used to sell out in a mere 2 to 3 seconds.

According to Manu Jain, Xiaomi India Chief, the company will stop selling the Mi 3 only on a temporarily basis for now and a final call will be taken after a few weeks of the RedMi 1S launch. Below is his official statement issued to India Today

“Yes, we will focus on RedMi 1S over next few weeks, and Mi 3 won’t be available. We will take the final call after few weeks, once we have more visibility and data points” – Manu Jain

Xiaomi has roughly sold around 90,000 units of the Mi 3 since it launched the device in India just over a month ago. The company expects the demand for the RedMi 1S to be even higher and has been preparing its supply chain for the high demands.

Irrespective of Xiaomi’s official statement, chances of the Mi 3 going back on sale in India again after a few weeks are very bleak especially since the company had to redirect some of its supply chain towards the Mi 4 launch.
