In a reply to a tweet about X removing the current block button, CEO Elon Musk said that the block function will prevent engagement but will still allow users to view public posts.

Currently, when trying to view the profile of a person who’s blocked you, X displays a “You’re blocked” message, with the platform also preventing you from seeing their replies, media, followers, and following list.
