Dell announced at CES 2015 that its Venue 8 7000 tablet is finally available for purchase in the United States. The “world’s thinnest tablet” has a waistline of only 6mm, which is a hair thinner than the 6.1mm thick iPad Air 2.
Aside from its thinness, the Venue 8 7000 packs in other compelling features as well, including an 8.4-inch “infinity display” with extremely minimal side and top bezels. The display also boasts a resolution of 2560 x 1600 pixels.
Under the hood, the tablet is powered by Intel’s quad-core Z3500 chipset clocked at 2.3GHz. It also comes with 2GB RAM, 16GB of internal storage and a microSD card slot. The 8MP camera on the rear of the Venue 8 is accompanied by two 720p stereoscopic located below it for Intel’s RealSense Snapshot Depth Camera technology. Using the combination of the camera and the sensors, the tablet will be able to create a depth map of every image clicked, which will then provide users with additional editing options like selective focus and filtering.
Out of the box, the Venue 8 7000 runs on Android 4.4 KitKat, but Dell has promised that the Lollipop update for the device is imminent. The company will also launch an LTE variant of the tablet in the coming months.
The Venue 8 7000 is already available for purchase in the United States through Dell’s website and Best Buy for $400. It will be making its way to Canada by next week and will be launched in Australia, India, Japan, Singapore, China and the UK in early 2015.
