Some Android devices out there like the HTC One M8 and the Oppo Find 7 allow users to launch a certain app by simply drawing a gesture on the screen even when the device is sleeping. Now, thanks to an Xposed module and custom kernel, owners of other Android devices can enjoy this functionality on their device as well.

The Xposed module — Wake gestures — works in conjunction with custom kernels that support the feature, allowing users to launch a pre-specified app by simply drawing a gesture on the screen. The gestures are limited to a left, right, up and down sweeps just like on the One M8. At the moment, there is no way to add custom gestures to the module.

For now, custom kernels supporting wake gestures exist only for the Nexus 5, Nexus 7 and the HTC One M7. Hopefully, custom kernel developers for other devices will also look into integrating this feature in their solutions sometime soon.

Keep in mind though that you will notice an additional hit in battery life with the Wake Gestures enabled kernel.
