In March this year, Xiaomi teased a 100W charging solution that could charge a smartphone from 0-100% in just 17 minutes. Not to be left behind, Vivo has now demoed an even more insane 120W fast charging solution that can charge a smartphone to full in just 13 minutes.

Dubbed 120W Super FlashCharge, the company claims that its fast-charging technology can fill a 4,000mAh battery to 50% in just 5 minutes and to 100% in just 13 minutes.

Vivo is expected to demo this tech at the upcoming MWC 2019 Shanghai which takes place from June 26-29 later this month. The company is also expected to showcase a 5G smartphone at the same event.

While insanely impressive, it is unlikely that we will see Vivo launch a smartphone with a 120W fast-charging solution anytime soon. That’s because charging a battery so rapidly will greatly decrease its lifespan by a considerable margin. It will be interesting to see how Vivo, Xiaomi, and other smartphone OEMs workaround this problem and bring insane charging speeds to their future smartphones.
