Last year with the Moto X, Motorola managed to wow everyone with the Active Display feature on the handset. The company further enhanced Active Display, and renamed it to Moto Display, on the new Moto X this year.

The Nexus 6, which is an enlarged Moto X, also features “Ambient Display” that might sound similar on paper to Motorola’s Moto Display but is different in functionality. Unlike Moto Display, the Ambient Display mode on the Nexus 6 is only activated when you pick up the phone. It can display any number of notifications and does not use any swipe based interface.

Ambient Display basically shows the stock Android 5.0 Lollipop lockscreen in black and white colors and as soon as you touch any notification, the display switches to color mode in almost no time.

If you have already got your hands on the Nexus 6, you can enable this feature by going into Settings -> Display and enabling ‘Ambient display.’
