Samsung has always made accessories for their smartphones, but this year, with the introduction of the Galaxy S4, they introduced something called “S-View”. It’s a fancy name for a flip-case with a plastic hole in the middle. With the case closed, you can see the time, date, and notifications. With the S-View cover for the Galaxy Note 3, Samsung kicked things up a notch.

Not only is the hole bigger, but it’ll let you do things like take a pictures or write a memo with the stylus. As someone who owns a Note II with a flip-cover, I can attest to the painful contortions you need to put your fingers in so you can take a photograph. With this, you can keep the cover closed, snap the photo you need to snap, and be done.

There’s a catch to all this though, and that’s price. Official Samsung cases are notoriously expensive compared to cases from third parties. That’s something that bugs a lot of people. You just spent $700 on a phone, why should you have to spend $50 or more on a piece of plastic? On the other side of the coin, you just spent $700 on a phone, wouldn’t you want to spend another $50 to keep the screen protected?
