Samsung has just confirmed that it will be sending out an update to disable the Galaxy Note 7 in the United States.

In that announcement, Samsung confirmed that it, along with carriers in the region, would be notifying customers of the impending update, and to return their devices as soon as they could. But it looks like Verizon Wireless won’t be contributing.

The Big Red carrier has announced that it will not be sending out the software update to permanently disable the Galaxy Note 7. In the confirmation, the company says it doesn’t want to leave customers without a device to communicate with people, especially with holiday travel already starting.

From Verizon:

“We do not want to make it impossible to contact family, first responders, or medical professionals in an emergency situation.”
