LG’s G2, the company’s newest flagship phone, looks like it’s going to come in multiple variants. The Korean model has a removable 2,610 mAh battery and a microSD card slot, whereas the international model has a larger battery that’s sealed and comes with a fixed amount of storage. According to Android Police, a third variant will be sold by Verizon Wireless that features wireless charging.
Why is Verizon getting an exclusive on wireless charging? Your guess is as good as mind, but I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that money was involved. It can’t be underestimated how large the mobile device accessory business is, and the mark-ups are ridiculous. That $30 plastic case you bought for your last phone took pennies to make. I’m sure Verizon will try really hard to sell you a $49 wireless charger that they bough straight from Shenzhen for $4.99. There’s also the bullet point mentality. When your phone has more “features” it must mean it’s “better”, right?
Is the rest of the phone the same? Yep. Same 5.2 inch 1080p screen, same buttons on the back, same Snapdragon 800 under the hood paired up with 2 GB of RAM, same 13 MP camera with OIS.
