Motorola/Lenovo have confirmed at IFA 2016 that the unlocked variants of the Moto Z and Moto Z Play will be available for pre-order from September 15th. Since they will be sold unlocked, the Moto Z and Moto Z Play will work without on all the major GSM networks in the United States like AT&T and T-Mobile.
The unlocked Moto Z Play has been priced at $449.99, while the Moto Z will set you back by $699.99. Both handsets are compatible with Moto Mods, which you can purchase separately.
Another benefit of the phones being completely unlocked is that they will have almost no bloatware pre-installed and they will be receiving direct updates from Motorola. This means that the unlocked Moto Z and Moto Z Play will be the first in line to receive the Android 7.0 Nougat update from Motorola, way ahead of the Verizon branded Droid versions of these phones.
The Moto Z Play will also be available for purchase through Verizon from September 8th for a retail price of $408, which is slightly lower than the price of the unlocked variant of the handset. On monthly installments, the phone will set you back by $17 per month.
What do you think about the Moto Z and Moto Z Play? Will you be buying either of them along with a Moto Mod or two?
