BlackBerry DTEK60

Back in September, it was reported that BlackBerry had essentially called it quits on manufacturing smartphones.

Since then, the market has seen two BlackBerry-branded devices based on TCL’s Alcatel designs reach customers in the DTEK50 and DTEK60. Now, BlackBerry has announced that from here on out, TCL Communication will be handling all of the hardware elements for BlackBerry’s smartphones.

Specifically, TCL will be taking care of the manufacturing, selling, and customer service elements. BlackBerry, for its part, will remain focused on software, and continue to develop the security and software that runs on those TCL-based devices.

This means BlackBerry is officially out of the smartphone hardware game, which is certainly sad news for a company that’s been around for so long.
