TAG Heuer’s CEO, Jean-Claude Biver, has revealed in an interview with Switzerland’s Le Matin Dimanche that its first Android Wear running smartwatch, the Carrera Connected, will be unveiled in New York on November 9 (i.e. later today).

The company’s first smartwatch will have “almost the same functions as an Apple Watch”, though surprisingly it will lack any activity-tracking features. Unlike other smartwatches in the market, the Carrera Connected will be made of titanium, and will come with a choice of six different wristbands. The smartwatch will be powered by an Intel chipset and will run on Android Wear that will make it possible to change its watch face.

The company is clearly positioning it as an exclusive, luxury watch, and does not intend to sell millions of units. That’s why TAG Heuer will have only 1,000 units of the Carrera Connected up for sale in New York at $1500 apiece. The smartwatch will also on in sale in Europe later this year. (Diazepam)
