T-Mobile Unlock Device tool

T-Mobile USA has just released a brand new application into the Google Play Store, and at face value it looks like a pretty great app. However, if you happen to own any other device other than Samsung’s recently launched Galaxy Avant, you’ll be out of luck.

The Magenta Carrier has officially released their “Device Unlock” app into the Google Play Store, and with it the ability to unlock your device just by using an application on your handset. To be more specific, it actually just lets you request and (if granted) apply a Mobile Device Unlock to the device, right from the handset. As per the official description of the app:

<blockquote"Device Unlock is an application that allows you to request and apply a Mobile Device Unlock directly from the device. The application is compatible only with Samsung Avant devices at this time.

And there’s the catch, right there near the end. While some of the reviews for the application are faulting it for not working on their device, T-Mobile clearly states that the service only works on the Samsung Galaxy Avant, which the carrier launched at the end of July this year. While the app doesn’t say that other devices are coming, it would be hard to imagine that that is not the case. How long that might take, though, is anyone’s guess at this point.

The app will offer up two options for unlocking: a limited time, 30-day unlock, which will best serve those who are traveling overseas for a short duration. The other option is a permanent unlock, which, as noted by TmoNews, can only be done if “certain eligibility requirements” are met.

Is this something that you think you’d use if it offered support for your device? You can find the link to the app down below.
