Xiaomi Mi3

Xiaomi’s Mi 3 might be an year old phone, but the company has managed to breathe a new life into it by releasing it in many developing markets including India at a very tempting prices.

In India, the Xiaomi Mi 3 sold out within a few seconds of going on sale on a weekly basis — clearly indicating how popular the handset actually is.

However, one of the downsides of the Mi 3 is that it runs on MIUI, which might not be too everyone’s liking. The lack of any source code from Xiaomi meant that any kind of custom ROMs for the handset were out of the equation as well.

Taking matters into his own hand, a MIUI developer over at Xiaomi has released a stock Android 4.4.4 based build for the Mi 3 as well as the recently released Mi 4. The ROMs for both devices are based on the same kernel as the one used by MIUI ROM so there are no major stability issues with them.

The post from the developer is in Chinese though, so make sure to go through the installation steps and any other warnings in the thread at least twice before you jump in to install the ROM on your Mi handset.
