Spotify is one of the most popular music streaming platforms on the planet, and while the company has used playlists for years in the standard app, apparently it’s time to try out a standalone option.

Variety first reported on the new app, which is called Stations, and launched on late Tuesday evening. At the time of publication the new app is only available in Australia, and even in the description of Stations Spotify says it’s an experiment that they are letting end users trial. There is no word on when, or if, Stations will ever see a broader International launch.

It is also an Android exclusive for the time being, with no indication if an iOS app is in the works, or even being considered.

As far as what Stations is, it’s designed solely around playlists. These are easy to jump into, with the app designed around large font. When you jump into a playlist there doesn’t appear to be a way to skip tracks, so bear that in mind if you do get a chance to try it out. Spotify also says the playlists will learn what you like over time, as is the main draw of Spotify in general so no surprise there.

In addition, Stations is entirely free. You don’t have to be a Spotify Premium subscriber to listen, and there are apparently no ads to have to wait through while listening.

Stations by Spotify sounds like an interesting idea, and it will be interesting to see if it gets a wider launch in the days, or weeks, ahead.
