Sony has just announced a new phone called the Xperia ZR. It’s not a flagship device since it doesn’t have a 1080p screen, but something tells me it’ll get a lot of love. Starting with the screen, the company’s press release says it has a 4.6 inch panel, but Sony’s actual website says 4.55 inches. From the headline alone, you can tell which source I trust more. Said display pushes 720p, so according to my math that’s 322 pixels per inch; roughly the same as an iPhone 5. Like the iPhone 5, it also has the touch sensor integrated into the panel itself. Sony calls this “OptiContrast” technology.
Under the hood, there’s 2012’s finest specs. You’re looking at a 1.5 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro, 2 GB of RAM, 4G LTE, and of course NFC. The camera can pump out 13 megapixels, so that’s impressive. Size wise, you’re looking at 131 x 67.4 x 10.4 mm, so it’s not exactly thin. Also, it’s kind of wide for a phone with such a “small” display.
Pricing? Nope, can’t tell you. Availability? End of this quarter, globally (hopefully).
