Sony is going to hold a press conference on September 4th in Berlin where it’s widely assumed that they’re going to announce at least one smartphone. Said phone has been called the “Honami” for months, but recent rumors say it’s going to be called the Xperia Z1. Think of it as a Snapdragon 800 powered version of the Xperia Z, but with a 20 megapixel camera. Rumors also say there will be a 4.3″ version of this phone with the same specs.
Now granted, the 4.3″ screen will push 720p instead of the 5.0″ 1080p Z1, but the Snapdragon 800, the 2 GB of RAM, and the 20 megapixel camera should all stay the same. According to the Japanese website Blog of Mobile, this miniature Z1 is codenamed “Itsuki”, and a photo of it has hit the internets.
Unsurprisingly, it looks a lot like the Xperia Z, but obviously with a smaller body. The alleged dimensions will be roughly 110 mm tall and 58 mm wide. For the sake of comparison, the iPhone 5 is 124 mm tall and 59 mm wide. Can Sony really pull off shoving a 4.3″ display in the iPhone 5’s body, which houses a 4.0″ screen?
Yes, because Sony’s phones use on-screen buttons.
All told, in 10 days we’ll know if this is legit or bunk.
