Sony is going to hold a press conference on September 4th where it’s widely assumed they’re going to announce a phone called the “Xperia Z1”. You probably know it better by its codename, Honami. It’ll have a 5 inch 1080p screen, Snapdragon 800 processor, 20 megapixel camera, and a massive 3,000 mAh battery. Thanks to some new leaked images discovered by Xperia Blog, it looks like the Z1 also has another trick up its sleeve: One giant bottom firing speaker.
Now I hate to bring up Apple again, but they seem to be one of the only companies out there that makes phones with speakers that spit out sound from the bottom of the device. HTC’s One is obviously the best sounding smartphone on the planet, but they do that at the cost of increasing the size of that device to accommodate the front facing speakers. Samsung almost always universally puts their mono speaker on the back of the phone, which makes it useless if you put it on a table.
Can Sony get better sound with a bottom firing speaker? Hey, if it works on the iPhone, why not?
