While rumor has it that Sony is killing off its C and M series devices, the X series continues to strive with a brand new handset.
Sony has officially announced the XA Ultra, which, as the “Ultra” brand suggests, means it’s a pretty big device. The XA Ultra features a 6-inch 1920×1080 display, which also features a minimal amount of bezel along the edges, making the display probably seem all that much bigger. Underneath that display is an octa-core MT6755 Helio P10 processor to make everything click along.
There’s also 3GB of RAM, 16GB of built-in storage, and the battery is measured in at 2700mAh. Sony says that battery can keep the device going for up to two days, but of course each use case is different. There’s a microSD card slot for expandable storage.
One of the major bullet points for Sony’s newest 6-inch smartphone is its front-facing camera, which is a 16-megapixel Sony Exmor R for mobile sensor. There’s optical image stabilization and a front flash, too. There’s a 21.5-megapixel camera on the back, which feature hybrid autofocus.
You’ll find a proprietary user interface from Sony on the Xperia XA Ultra, as usual, and it’s running Android 6.0 Marshmallow right out of the box. There is a black, lime gold, and white option. As far as a release date, that’s unknown at this point, and Sony isn’t opening up about pricing just yet, either.
