Alongside the Xperia XZ, Sony also unveiled its new compact flagship: the Xperia X Compact. Unlike the XZ, the Xperia X Compact is made from plastic with a design language that Sony devices are now popular for. Disappointingly, the X Compact does not sport any kind of water resistance capabilities like the XZ.

The front of the Xperia X Compact is adorned with a 4.6-inch 720p LCD display that is protected by Corning’s Gorilla Glas 4. Inside the X Compact is Qualcomm’s hexa-core Snapdragon 650 chipset and an Adreno 510 GPU. While not flagship level, the chipset packs in plenty of punch especially for the 720p screen resolution. The 8.5mm thick handset also sports a 2700mAh battery with Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 3.0 technology. Like the Xperia XZ, the X Compact also sports a USB Type-C port.

Other specs include a 23MP rear shooter with a 1/2.3″ Exmor RS sensor and a 24mm wide-angle lens. At the front is a 5MP shooter with a wide-angle lens. The usual connectivity options like Wi-Fi b/g/n/ac, LTE, Bluetooth, GPS, and NFC are also present. The handset runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box, with Sony’s own modifications thrown in.

The Xperia X Compact will start shipping from September 25 in selected markets. The handset will be available in Mist Blue, Universe Black, and White colors.
