Sony SmartBand 2

Sony today unveiled the SmartBand 2, its second fitness tracking wearable that now features a heart rate monitor. However, the band now does not come with a 1.4-inch e-Paper display that was found on its predecessor.

The wearable instead features LEDs to notify users of important messages or notifications. Other functions of the SmartBand 2 include the ability to track the steps taken by its wearer, various other physical activity done by them and a Smart Alarm that will automatically wake them up through light vibrations. It can also be used as a remote to control media playback on your device.

The waterproof device comes with Bluetooth 4.0 and NFC for easy connectivity with Android devices. The wearable is also compatible with Sony’s Lifelog app that can log various activities and key events of the wearer on a daily basis.

Sony claims that the 58mAh battery inside the SmartBand 2 is good enough to last two days with only one hour on the charger.

The SmartBand 2 will be available in black and white when it initially launches in September for €119 (~$130).
