Similar to the Samsung article I just published, here are a handful of Sony rumors that hit the internets while I was gone for Easter.
Starting with the most painful one, Sony is set to obsolete the Xperia Z and ZL this summer with two devices called the A and UL. The A is supposed to be a 4.6 inch version of the Z, but with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 instead of the Snapdragon S4. In other words, the Xperia A is pretty much an HTC One. The UL on the other hand is said to be the ZL, but again, with a Snapdragon 600 instead of a Snapdragon S4.
There’s also a rumor floating around saying Sony will release a 6.4 inch smartphone codenamed “Togari” to compete with Samsung’s Galaxy Note III. Sony is allegedly unsure whether they want to even make the thing.
And finally, saving the best for last, Sony is said to be introducing a new smartphone product family later this year. The source doesn’t say whether or not the Xperia brand will die, but they do say the first product in this new portfolio will have a 20 megapixel camera, amazing audio, and it’ll also be dust and water proof.
Will any of these rumors come true? Let’s see. I really want Sony to win since I love their designs, but they just can’t seem to make devices that scream “buy me”. I wanted to like the Z, but the screen was crap, and don’t even get me started about the ports.
And I wanted to love the ZL, but again, terrible display.
